Forces Children's Education

For many years, the Forces Children’s Education website has been a trusted source of information, guidance and support for Armed Forces families, education professionals and partner organisations across Scotland. A large part of its success is thanks to the dedication, expertise and commitment of Carolyn MacLeod MBE, National Education and Transitions Officer (NETO) whose tireless work has ensured that those supporting Armed Forces children and young people have access to reliable practical and up-to-date information.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Carolyn for the many years she has dedicated to developing and maintaining this important resource. As she steps back from her role as NETO, we recognise and appreciate the lasting contribution she has made.

Throughout her time in post, Carolyn has supported countless families, schools and professionals, always demonstrating a strong commitment to improving educational experiences for children and young people from Armed Forces families. Her knowledge, generosity and professionalism have made a lasting impact, and she leaves behind a legacy that is greatly valued.

As arrangements are being made to appoint a new NETO post holder, the Centre for Military Research, Education, Practice and Engagement (CMREPE-ENU) at Edinburgh Napier University, under the guidance of Professor Gerri Matthews, will continue to maintain the Forces Children’s Education website, ensuring that families and professionals can easily access the information and guidance they need. We are committed to keeping the website current, relevant and a trusted source of information and support for the Armed Forces community during this period of change.

As part of this continued development, we will soon introduce a new section focused on supporting prospective university students from Armed Forces families, along with their parents and carers. This area will provide information on higher education, student finance, preparing for university, available support and guidance to help families make informed decisions about the next stage of their educational journey.

The website has always evolved in response to the needs of the Armed Forces community and we want that to continue. We warmly welcome your ideas and suggestions on how we can further improve and develop the site.
