Armed Forces Day events around the country

Armed Forces Day is the culmination of week-long festivities to honour our Military personnel.

The annual event takes place on the last Saturday of June, which this year is 29 June.

It’s all to pay tribute to our Forces personnel, past and present, including Serving, Veterans, Reservists, Ex-Service, and their families.

The celebrations officially began on Monday 24 June, when the Armed Forces Day flag was raised on buildings and landmarks across the UK. Since then, communities across the country have been enjoying parades and family days, and the fun looks set to continue this weekend.

Here are some of the events taking place on Saturday 29 June.

Events

Aberdeen Armed Forces Day Parade

A parade of serving military men and women, veteran associations, cadet and youth organisations will be accompanied by local pipe bands and vintage military vehicles. March down Union Street from 11:00-noon, finishing at the Castlegate. Discover more on the Aberdeen City Council website.

Bravehound’s Armed Forces Day Dog Show

A paws-tastic family day will be taking place from noon to 16:00 at the Sight Scotland Veterans Linburn Centre, Wilkieston. The free event will include dog show classes, agility display and Bravehound parade. Bravehound supports former servicemen, women and their families. We provide training and dogs to support veterans across Scotland.

More details are available on the Bravehound website.

Glasgow Armed Forces Day Event

On 29 June, Armed Forces representatives will parade to George Square, with a salute from Lord Lieutenant and Senior Armed Forces members. There will also be stands and fun activities on George Square.
