The Scottish Government has provided £50,000 of funding to maintain the role of ADES National Education Officer (NEO).

NEO Carolyn MacLeod MBE, who runs Forces Children’s Education website, plays a key role in supporting schools and school leaders, particularly through the ADES (Association of Directors of Education for Scotland) Armed Forces Working Group (Service Support Champions) and the Headteachers’ Forum. These networks enable the sharing of information and best practice among all local authorities, to improve the support offered to children and young people of Armed Forces and Veterans’ families.

Carolyn is the sole ‘enabler’ of support for Armed Forces children and young people in Scotland’s schools. She is dedicated to helping educators meet the specific needs of Forces families, from early years through to secondary education and beyond.

Through the NEO role, Carolyn continues to identify and address the specific challenges faced during periods of transition to mitigate the impact of mobility and deployment.
