Forces Children's Education

This Christmas we extend warm wishes to Armed Forces families and educators.

We realise this can be a challenging time of year for many. There is much happening around the world and it can be unsettling and worrying – especially for those who are separated from loved ones. We hope you find moments of comfort and connection, even from afar.

Carolyn MacLeod MBE, who runs Forces Children’s Education to provide support and advice to Armed Forces families and educators, reflected back on the past 12 months.

“As this year draws to a close, I would like to thank everyone who has supported Forces families.

“This has been an extraordinary year and Forces Children’s Education is here to support the families and children of those who serve and have served.

“Thank you for engaging with us and helping us to better support Armed Forces families and those educators who work with them.”

Carolyn plays a key role in supporting schools and school leaders, particularly through the Association of Directors of Education for Scotland (ADES), the Armed Forces Working Group (Service Support Champions) and the Headteachers’ Forum. These networks enable the sharing of information and best practice among all local authorities, to improve the support offered to children and young people of Armed Forces and Veterans’ families.

In 2025, Forces Children’s Education will continue to provide valuable resources for families and educators to support children and young people. Forces children and young people are in every local authority across Scotland and we hope to assist the understanding of their various education journeys. 

We will continue to ensure Forces Children’s Education remains an excellent first point of contact for information on transitioning in education for Armed Forces families.
