Forces Children's Education

The National Scottish Armed Forces Education Support Group (SAFESG) has established a Transitions Sub-Group to develop a tri-service resource that will aid educational transitions across the UK and overseas.

A Transitions Workshop is being held at the Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement within the Rivers Suite at Edinburgh Napier University, Craiglockhart, on Tuesday 25 February from 10:00-16:00.

Attendance and participation is restricted to professional educators and third sector organisations who work with children and young people of Armed Forces families, and all of the presentations and activities are designed with that audience in mind. The event provides attendees the opportunity to share their input and expertise as part of this group in order to develop practical and supportive information that will improve the transition experience for children, young people, their families and educators.

Aims of the Transitions Sub-Group

The aim of the group is to develop a tri-service resource that will aid educational transition across the UK and overseas, for children and young people from the Armed Forces community, by working together to identify the key factors that contribute to a successful transition between systems. The group will also look at the barriers to educational transitions and how these can be overcome. 

The event provides the opportunity for professionals and third sector organisations who work with children and young people from Armed Forces families to share their input and expertise as part of this group in order to develop practical and supportive information that will improve the transition experience for children, young people, their families and educators.

To support this aim, the workshop will involve collaborative activities that will help define the issues before refining the focus of the developed resources.
