Transitions Sub-Group Workshop

A group of workshop attendees gathered in the sunshine for a picture.

Children and young people from Armed Forces families can experience a number of transitions to new schools from within and across the UK and overseas.

This is why in late February, professionals and third sector organisations that support and work with children, young people and their families from the Armed Forces community attended a workshop, organised by the Scottish Armed Forces Education Support Group (SAFESG), at The Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement: Edinburgh Napier University.

Through collaboration and co-production this workshop provided an opportunity to develop supportive and practical information to improve the transition experience for children, young people, their families and educators. The group worked together to identify the key factors contributing to a successful transition between systems in addition to barriers and how these might be overcome.

The event was attended by stakeholders from the Association of Directors of Education Scotland (ADES), Forces Children’s Education, Argyll and Bute Council, Education Scotland, Royal Navy, Army and the Royal Air Force Families Federations, Forces Children Scotland, Gosport – King’s Academies Community Hub, Highland Council, Ministry of Defence (MoD) tri-services, MoD Families and Safeguarding, Napier University and the Scottish Government.
